CALTECH POLICIES REGARDING ANIMALS ON CAMPUS

NOTICE for undergraduate housing:

the determination whether cats will be allowed in undergrad housing during the 2009/10 academic year has not been made. Please address inquiries to Peter Daily, Assistant Vice President Student Affairs, Housing and Dining (pdaily@caltech.edu).

For graduate housing:

a limited number of cats are expected to be allowed in grad student housing. Cats must be registered to be kept in Caltech housing. Please complete and submit the following form to the Housing department.

Cat Addendum to the Caltech Housing Rental Agreement

Important features of Cat Addendum:

  • Maximum of 2 cats per unit/apartment in non-undergraduate housing
  • Cat must be neutered/spayed.
  • Cats are not allowed outside housing units except on a leash.
  • A caretaker must be designated for periods when the cat’s owner may be away.

It is expected that it will still be permissible to keep pets that can be permanently and appropriately maintained in a 20 gallon or smaller aquarium or cage. PLEASE NOTE: a 20 gallon area is not sufficient space for a rabbit, and rabbits are not allowed in Caltech housing.

For the complete contract and application, please use the above link. If you would like to know some of the reasons for implemenation of particular aspects of the policy, please read: Explanations for the cat provisions in the housing policy

General housing information can be found on the graduate housing website and the undergraduate housing website.
